The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR)’s new strategy focuses on the climate crisis and the role of SCAR as the  leading scientific organization on Antarctica. Concurrently, SCAR will continue to lead, support, and encourage a broad range of Antarctic and Southern Ocean science and research. SCAR strives to establish its presence as a forward-looking international scientific organization by upholding values common to all members and the wider scientific community, including the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

Prorogato al 31 ottobre 2023 il termine ultimo per presentare la candidatura per la posizione ICT/radio per partecipare alla XX campagna invernale (novembre 2023 - novembre 2024) del PNRA presso la stazione Concordia in Antartide.

Procedura pubblica per il reperimento di un Medico per la partecipazione della XXXIX Spedizione italiana in Antartide da assegnare temporaneamente al Programma Nazionale di Ricerche in Antartide (PNRA). L’OGS indice una procedura per il reperimento di una unità di personale medico da assegnare temporaneamente al PNRA per un periodo compreso tra il 20 dicembre 2023 e il 10 marzo 2024. Il medico affiancherà il personale tecnico-scientifico della XXXIX Spedizione italiana in Antartide per le attività da svolgersi sulla nave rompighiaccio Laura Bassi.

La Notte dei Ricercatori è un’iniziativa promossa dalla Commissione Europea, che permette di creare occasioni di incontro e discussione tra ricercatori e cittadini su temi di grande attualità, parlando delle future sfide scientifiche. Il 29 e il 30 settembre dalle 18:30 alle 23:00, la Città dell’Altra Economia (CAE) – nel quartiere Testaccio di Roma – ospiterà eventi, laboratori, attività per bambini, talk, incontri con i ricercatori per avvicinare il grande pubblico di tutte le età ai temi della scienza.

Following their recently renewed partnership agreement, the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) are pleased to confirm that preparatory work has started for a 5th International Polar Year (IPY) in 2032-33. Organizing the 5th IPY 25 years after the last IPY in 2007-08 reflects the urgent need for coordinated international research to tackle the biggest challenges of polar research, for both the Polar Regions themselves and for the world as a whole. 

Il corso di dottorato in Scienze Polari attivo presso l’Università Ca’ foscari di Venezia allarga la sua offerta formativa e le posizioni a concorso diventando Corso di dottorato di Interesse Nazionale in Scienze polari. Il corso, precedentemente della durata di 4 anni, da questo XXXIX ciclo passa a una durata classica dei 3 anni. Il bando per sottomettere domande di partecipazione aprirà il prossimo 3 agosto 2023 e sara’ disponibile sul sito della universtia’ Ca’ Foscari.  

E' prorogato al 21 agosto 2023 il termine per presentare le candidature per profili scientifici e tecnici per la XX campagna  invernale, “Winterover DC20” (novembre 2023- novembre 2024) del PNRA presso la stazione italo-francese Concordia in Antartide

XIII SCAR Biology Symposium will take place in Ōtautahi, Aotearoa (Christchurch, New Zealand).  Join many of the world’s leading scientists and early career researchers in Antarctic Biology and Ecology for the first face-to-face SCAR meeting in 3 years. This meeting will offer four days of invited keynotes, plenaries, and concurrent sessions, with a mid-week break of excursions to allow attendees to enjoy some spectacular parts of New Zealand’s South Island. Satellite meetings and workshops will be held during the weekends before and after the meeting.

The XLV Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM XLV) and the XXV Meeting of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP XXV) will be taken in Helsinky, Finland. Due to the decision in the ATCM XLIV in Berlin to hold an extra full-day ATCM/CEP joint session on Climate Change on Friday 2 June 2023, the sessions will run from 28 May to 8 June 2023 at the Scandic Marina Congress Center in Helsinki.

EU-PolarNet 2 and the European Polar Board co-organise a webinar "Governing and protecting the Antarctic and Southern Ocean" taking place on 15 May 2023 at 14:00 CET. The webinar will give an overview of Antarctic Governance and various actors involved – the Antarctic Treaty and its related agreements including the Madrid Protocol; other international agencies and organisations that provide advice and support the work of the ATS; other conventions that are relevant for the Southern Ocean.
