- The project
The main objectives of geological-structural research in Terra Nova Bay region are: 1. examination and sampling of metamorphic sequences to establish the tectono-metamorphic evolution, in particular the chronological relationships between deformation and recrystallization phases. In the low-grade metasedimentary sequence (Priestley Formation), not yet paleontologically dated, the sampling is also aimed to verify the presence of significant microfossils, Acritarchi in particular; 2. examination and sampling of the plutonic facies up to now identified in the intrusive complex to ascertain geochemical and geochronological data. This research is aimed to contribute with new data to the knowledge of a sector that is still relatively little studied of the Transantarctic Mountains.
