Il progetto

The BOOST project is addressed to the Pacific side of North Victoria Land (NVL), i.e. Oates Coast and Pennell Coast (Fig. 1), a mostly unexplored and under-explored key area of Antarctica. The main aims of BOOST are: i) the creation of a morphotectonic model of the area that correlates the inland geological features (onshore) with the geology at the sea bottom (offshore); ii) the assessment of the impact of Cenozoic tectonics and geodynamic evolution of the area on the ice sheet dynamics. The project is developed within the frame of an international collaboration (scientific and logistic) over two years of data acquisition in Antarctica on board the icebreaker R/V Laura Bassi. The project will combine multi-methodological geophysical and geological land-sea investigations and will address important questions of broad interest about the Antarctic Earth System evolution.
