The project

The main objectives of the volcanological research in Terra Nova Bay region are: 1. examination and sampling of the volcanic product (lava and volcanoclastic sequences) to establish the diffusion of the volcanological product of the Mount Melbourne field; 2. to geochemically characterize the different products and to collect geochronological data; 3. to define the location for the volcanological observatory at the Mount Melbourne. This research is aimed to contribute with new data to the knowledge of the Cenozoic volcanism in northern Victoria Land.
