The main objective of the project is the multi-disciplinary These caves represent a perfect laboratory for studying both volcanic and biological peculiarities that are almost impossible to study elsewhere: (1) they are an ideal ecosystem for study chemolithotrophic microorganisms; (2) they can help investigate the volcano's eruptive history; (3) they represent a site particularly protected where to conduct volcanic surveillance
